Infants Under 12 Months Can Strangle or Suffocate
on Adult Beds


A 6 month old child was placed on a bed. He apparently crawled or slipped through a space between the mattress and a metal horizontal bar at the foot of the bed. The child's head became stuck between the metal bar and the mattress while his feet touched the floor. The child died from strangulation.

Never leave an infant under 12 months old alone on an adult or youth bed. They can be trapped between the mattress and the wall or frame.

Parents sleeping in bed with an infant have accidentally rolled over and suffocated the child.
