7-Week Old Suffocates On Infant Pillow

A 7-week old baby boy was found not breathing by his father face-down on an infant's bean-bag type pillow-cushion in the portable crib located in the parent's bedroom in their home. Emergency fire rescue found the child dead on the scene. Medical examiner's autopsy classified the death as natural due to sudden infant death syndrome. A fraternal twin sister of the victim who had used a different pillow-cushion in the crib did not experience any incident, but that child has since developed breathing problems.

Over 35 infants have died face-down on infant cushions.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all healthy infants to be placed on their backs or sides to sleep.

Keep infant's face off of all pillows and comforters.
